Tapered implants: from indications to advantages.

چکیده
Tapered implants have become routine for immediate implant placement after tooth extraction. It seemed extremely advantageous to use tapered implants in type 4 bone, where primary stability is difficult to achieve. The authors established a surgical implant placement protocol to be followed in areas where type 4 bone and a wide bone ridge (> or = 8 mm) are present. First, preparation of the implant alveolus is done exclusively with cylindric osteotomes, rather than with conic osteotomes or drills. The final cylindric osteotome is the same diameter as the final twist drill that is typically used in conventional preparation of the implant alveolus (a technique that can be adapted for use with other tapered implants). Because of the self-tapping property of the tapered implant used and its anatomic design, this surgical technique was developed to optimize the bone compaction effect in the coronal third of the implant, improving bone density and providing better primary stability values (> or = 70 ISO, via the Osstell Mentor device). With the strong bond that is created between the implant surface and the surrounding bone using this technique, immediate loading can be predictable, even in the type 4 bone that is commonly found in the maxillary tuberosity.

Osteotome sinus augmentation with less than 5 mm of native bone: a membrane visualization technique using a tapered platform-shifting implant.
As the usage of implants has increased, a trend in dental implantology is a move towards minimally invasive surgical techniques, which offer the advantages of both decreased healing time and lessened surgical morbidity. These improved procedures encourage more patients to consider this treatment. In addition, improved bone-grafting augmentation materials and enhanced implant surface design char...
متن کاملA One-year Follow-up Study of a Tapered Hydrophilic Implant Design Using Various Placement Protocols in the Maxilla
PURPOSE To study the clinical/radiographic outcomes and stability of a tapered implant design with a hydrophilic surface when placed in the maxilla using various protocols and followed for one year. METHODS Ninety-seven consecutive patients treated as part of daily routine in two clinics with 163 tapered implants in healed sites, in extraction sockets and together with bone augmentation proce...
متن کامل[Cochlear implants using the Ultracision harmonic scalpel].
We have evaluated the utility, indications and disadvantages of the Ultracision harmonic scalpel, in the cochlear implants, and his advantages compare to other electrocoagulation's systems. These aspects were evaluated in 50 cases of cochlear implants, made along the last years. We concluded that the Ultracision harmonic scalpel is indicated, mainly, in the otology field, in these situations in...
متن کاملLocalized sinus elevation and osteocompression with single-stage tapered dental implants: technical note.
In the atrophic posterior maxilla, placement of longer (at least 10 mm) and wider diameter implants may significantly improve long-term results, but sinus grafting is often necessary to provide sufficient bone volume for implant support. The crestal approach to sinus augmentation requires penetration of the sinus floor with surgical instruments that are often difficult to control; there is a hi...
متن کاملEffects of implant morphology on rotational stability during immediate implant placement in the esthetic zone.
PURPOSE Primary implant stability is critical to achieving implant success, especially in a situation with immediate implant placement and provisionalization (IIPP) when bone quality and quantity are compromised. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of implant morphology (tapered vs cylindric) and the final drill-implant diameter discrepancy (FD-IDD) of six implant systems on th...
